Update from Dharamsala, India (2)
Couldn’t join the hunger strike after all.
The Indian police stop us and said that as we’re on a tourist visa we can’t participate in any political activities.? And if we do, we’ll be deported (sent back home) in 48 hours and would never be able to come back to India again.? Some foreigners were deported already.
This really pissed us off!!
But we didn’t join anyway, because of many other complications and many Tibetan want to join and there wasn’t enough space.
So we went back to our guesthouse to drop off our sleeping bags (prepared to fight the cold in open air), then go to the town square to observe the situation. Hundreds of people were in the demonstration shouting angrily and burning the Chinese flag, something I don’t consider as “non-violent”.? But in the mean time, I can understand (of course not completely) their situations with families and friends being killed.
Things were heated, and my friend Jaye was so brave she shout out asking the crowd to be quiet and start a pray of “Om Mani Padme Hum” a prayer of compassion.
People did quiet down and start praying with us.
It was beautiful.
But only last a few minutes as many men start shouting “Free Tibet” very loudly again.
It was a good win, showing that many Tibetans really want peaceful demonstration.
Some monks are still praying when we left.
There are many demonstrations around town, most were praying peacefully.
The Chinese prime minister accused the Dalai Lama as staging all these, which I think is ridiculous.
Today the Dalai Lama said if the violence worsen, he will resign.
Things are heated more and more.
Violence can never be ended with counter violence.
But how can people who are brutally hurted over and over for decades keep their mind of “peace”
It’s a huge challenge.
I hope the Tibetans can.
As for me, I’m fine and had a big Indian dinner (after a big breakfast and big lunch we had in preparation).
Will be off to Delhi tomorrow.
Please pray for the Tibetans na ka.
P.S. Like last time, see latest pics/situation at my roommate blog at http://www.jayerhodes.com/
