Update from Dharamsala, India - home of Tibetans in-excile (1)

As some of you have known, I’m now in Dharamsala, India.
Just finish a 10 days retreat of Tibetan Buddhism/meditation and came out to find the city in chaos.
The retreat was fascinating, but that story will have to wait.
Now I want to update you on another important situation.
Some of you might have heard about the China-Tibet incidents.? There was a demonstration on 10th March as national uprising day, violence broke out, China said “a few” people were killed, the Tibetan government has record of a hundred.? As far as talking to people around town, I’ve heard of more than “a few” of their relatives being killed already.

The city is nearly all closed down now, especially shops own by Tibetans are close down to show solidarity.? There’re demonstrations going around town everyday with more and more people joining.? Thousands were marching around town last night, then gathered at the Great Temple to watch the tape of Dalai Lama press conference to the global media.? Within seconds all the yelling quiet down to hear their leader for 4 hours, follow by a prayer.
Things are heated, but not dangerous.? No need to worry about me.
My friends and I here have been trying to find something we can help.

So today we’ll join a “Hungry Strike” It has started a few days now, people take shift of 24 hours each, starting at 2pm and the whole strike will last till the Chinese end the violence.
This is a very peaceful way to show them that we can’t accept this.
A group of us are from USA, England, Norway, and Korea….should bring some interest from the international media - we hope.

For more information and pics, check out my friends website at http://www.jayerhodes.com/ she’s my room-mate here and we’re together most of the time, so same experience.

We don’t know what more we can do yet.
For now please spread the words!
